More than 200 advocates came together for the California by Bike Summit in Oakland earlier this month. Four of the staff here at the National Partnership were able to attend and National Partnership director, Deb Hubsmith, made a special appearance from the hospital where she’s receiving treatment for acute myeloid leukemia.

Jeanie Ward-Waller, California advocacy organizer, presented in a panel on the National Partnership’s leadership surrounding the development of the new Active Transportation Program. A good discussion session followed the panels; advocates from around the state raised issues ranging from the challenges of disadvantaged communities to showcasing bike/ped mobility through large grants.

Other highlights from the summit included a keynote from Brian Kelly,  a rousing call to Caltrans for innovation from Martha Roskowski at PeopleforBikes, and super-fun after-parties and bike rides.
