New Program Increases Funding, Sets Lofty Goals

The Active Transportation Program (ATP) is a new funding program for bicycling and walking projects in California. Enacted in September 2013 via Senate Bill 99; the ATP is funded in the 2013-14 State Budget at $130 million per year.

The goals of the ATP are to increase the proportion of bicycling/walking trips, increase safety and mobility, advance regional greenhouse gas reduction goals, enhance public health, ensure that disadvantaged communities equally share in the benefits of the program, and provide a broad spectrum of projects. The ATP was enacted in September 2013 and has been funded in the 2013-14 State Budget at $130 million per year.
