Learn about building healthier communities through smarter parking pricing on the next webinar of the Bay Area Health in Transportation (BAHT) Collaborative coming up on Wednesday, October 16 at 10 am!  Sign up now: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/rt/1179085832310329344

On our next webinar, we’ll hear from Ann Cheng, TransForm’s GreenTRIP Program Director, who will provide a presentation about the GreenTRIP Certification Program, TransForm’s low traffic development certification, awarding housing projects with excellent traffic reduction and innovative parking strategies. To date, the program has certified 15 projects around the Bay Area. In just the first five projects, developers committed to $7 million in guaranteed transit pass revenues equivalent to 80,000 years of transit passes instead of providing more parking than necessary in transit rich, walkable neighborhoods. Instead of wasting resources on unused car parking spaces, communities are increasingly realizing they can encourage and even require new development to provide healthy and more economical transportation options.

Using certified projects as excellent case studies, TransForm has helped educate the community and decision-makers about how parking policies could be updated to best support walkable and healthier communities.  Ann will also highlight TransForm’s new GreenTRIP Connect Initiative to build a dynamic model that will make it easy for anyone to see the health benefits of trading parking spaces for transit passes in proposed new development projects.  Finally, she will share parking opportunity cost analyses developed with support from Change Lab Solutions that were used in the Lake Merritt BART Station Area planning process to explain the impact of lowered parking requirements in exchange for increased pedestrian and biking mobility safety improvements.
