August State Network meeting – General Plans, health, and SRTS
August 7, 2013 Leave a comment
Please join us for the August State Network meeting to weigh in on how to improve community planning in California!
Staff from the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research will present during the meeting on their work this year to update the state’s General Plan Guidelines, and then we’ll open the discussion to lessons learned from your experience with general planning. The 2013 guidelines update aims to make the guidelines and general plan process more publicly accessible and encourage local governments to embed strong public health considerations within the required elements of general plans. OPR staff really want good examples and best practices on those sorts of planning elements that our state network are experts on: Safe Routes to School, Complete Streets, and coordination of school and community infrastructure planning.
Please join us on August 19 to hear about the guidelines update and provide feedback to OPR staff!
Monday, August 19 from 10-11 am

Before the 8/19 meeting, please take a quick survey on SRTS planning!
Every city and county in the state must adopt a comprehensive, long-term general plan that addresses land use, conservation, safety, circulation (i.e. transportation), noise, open space, and housing. The Office of Planning and Research is tasked with providing guidelines to local agencies with recommendations on the general plan process and what should be included. Periodically, OPR updates the guidelines to keep them current, align them with evolving state goals, and make improvements to the process.
We want to hear from you! In preparation for our August state network meeting, please complete a short survey on Safe Routes to School in general plans. Whether or not you have experience with a general plan process, your feedback is valuable to OPR. Your survey response will directly impact the general plan guidelines update that is currently in process by the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research, and help us to make the best use of our state network meeting on 8/19. The survey should not take more than 10 minutes. Thanks!
