USDOT Secretary Foxx promotes ped safety and active living

In two recent blog posts on the US Deptartment of Transportation’s FASTLANE blog, new Secretary Anthony Foxx highlights the importance of walking and bicycling.

Today’s post promotes the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s campaign Everyone is a Pedestrian, which focuses on reducing pedestrian injuries and fatalities after an increase in pedestrian safety risk in 2011.  NHTSA launched a web resource www.nhtsa.gov/everyoneisapedestrian, and is also offering $2 million is ped safety grants for the cities with the highest rates of pedestrian fatalities.

Just last Friday (8/2), another post on FASTLANE showcases an infograpic designed by our friends at Active Living Research titled the Role of Transportation in Promoting Physical Activity.

Active_TransportationWe applaud Secretary Foxx on making health, safety, and active travel a focus for his Administration early in his tenure as head of US DOT!
