Alameda County Transportation Funding Measure B1 Fails, but Recount Possible

A measure in Alameda County that would have raised about $8 billion to fund roads, freeways, public transit, trails, bicycle lanes and transit-oriented development, appears to have failed to pass in a very close vote. Measure B1 would have required a two-thirds vote of County voters to pass, but appeared to be just 700 votes shy of that mark.

Measure B1 would have increased the county’s transportation sales tax to 1 cent and made it permanent. There might be a recount if requested (and paid for) by the Alameda County Transportation Commission. Even if Measure B1 fails, transportation projects in Alameda County will continue to get funding from a half-cent per dollar sales tax imposed from a prior measure, Measure B.
