The Governor’s 2014-15 budget proposal includes $850 million in Cap-and-Trade funding to programs that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The largest share of this new revenue is earmarked for transportation programs, but none of that funding is allocated to the new Active Transportation Program to support investments in walking and bicycling this year.
The Safe Routes to School National Partnership has co-hosted workshops around the state over the last two months to help communities prepare to apply for ATP grants and we’ve seen the huge demand for these limited funds. Applications this spring are expected to far exceed the state’s funding capacity.
Join us and other statewide organizations in asking for $50 million in Cap-and-Trade funding in this budget year for the Active Transportation Program to support investing immediately in walking and bicycling improvements!
