At last month’s So Cal Safe Routes to School Network meeting in Fullerton, NuPac Director Michelle Martinez provided a excellent overview of the OC collaborative to address nutrition and physical activity – you can view the powerpoint Michelle gave at our meeting and below is some background she provided on their efforts. The Orange County Nutrition and Physical Activity Collaborative (NuPAC) is a countywide community collaborative providing leadership and coordination in the areas of nutrition and physical activity. Over 200 members are part of the collaborative. Membership is open to all who have a professional or personal interest in promoting healthy eating and active lifestyles.
VISION: All people and communities in Orange County engage in healthy eating and physical activity while celebrating healthy lifestyles.
MISSION: To lead coordinated efforts and maximize resources to decrease obesity and improve healthy eating and physical activity among Orange County families and communities.
- Use the Orange County Obesity Prevention Plan as a framework for action.
- Position NuPAC as the recognized leader on childhood obesity efforts, maximizing resources, results and relevancy for Orange County.
Orange County Obesity Prevention Plan (OCCOPP)
In 2008, NuPAC launched the Orange County plan, patterned after the California Obesity Prevention Plan.
Areas of activities focus on seven sectors:
- Local Government
- Health Care Insurers & Providers
- Employers & Worksites
- Food & Beverage Industry
- Entertainment & Professional Sports
This plan provides a framework in which multiple partners can work together and measure their progress.
